If you would like to foster a dog or cat while you're here in South Florida for the season, please contact us. Most foster parents have a dog for only a week to a month.
And sometimes, just sometimes, a few weeks can turn into a lifelong love affair:
"Dear Bobbi,
"We are writing to tell you what a change our little Foster has made in our lives. If you recall, we were unable to adopt a pet because we go away in the summer for four months and the lease restricts pets to owners only. So, with the understanding that whatever dogs we took from Chesed, they would be fostered only because of our summer situation. That is until we obtained Camelot (your name) who we called Foster so that we knew that was as far as we could go. But after you notified us after around two weeks of having Foster that you had someone ready to adopt, we knew we could not give h
im up. So, we adopted him, knowing full well that we might wind up having to break the lease, leave NH, and return to Florida.. We knew he was that important.
"We have been here three months now, have not been discovered by the landlord (although everyone else in the valley knows and loves Foster) and it looks like we shall be home free for this summer. Not that we are hiding him, on the contrary. We walk him every day to the town center, everyone knows and loves him. He is welcome at the Ice Cream Social every Monday nite, we go to drive-in theatres so we don't have to leave him alone, eat at restaurants with outdoor seating, in essence, we have changed our lives to adopt to his lifestyle.
"He is, not so surprising, a good swimmer, a bit reluctant at first, a great communicator (sneezes when he has to go out) and is very protective. We used to have him sleep on a dog cushion, on the floor, until the day that I came home from a cataract operation wearing an eye patch. From that moment on, he has slept on the bed with us and won't have it any other way.
"So, this is our way of thanking you for the privilege of adopting this wonderful little dog. He is, by the way, a Bijon Frise, so many owners have told us so that we are convinced.
"I am enclosing a recent picture of Foster (it's cold up here in NH). He sends his well wishes and thanks you for finding us.
"Keep up your good work. Hope to see you in the fall.
"Best wishes- Marv and Carole"
