CHESED FOUNDATION, INC.
A NON-PROFIT 501(c)(3) ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO
THE RESCUE AND PLACEMENT OF UNWANTED ANIMALS.
“Any religion not based
on respect for life is not a true religion.
Until he extends his circle of compassion to
all living things, man will not himself find
peace.” Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965)
Chesed Foundation was started
unofficially 12 years ago. In 2004 Chesed
was incorporated as a non-profit and obtained
the designation as a 501 (c) (3) charity in
January 2005. Throughout this time the mission of saving
helpless and unwanted pets has not changed.
Chesed is defined as a sustaining action which
comes out of kindness and compassion. Acts
qualify as Chesed when they are motivated by a
spirit of honest and selfless generosity, not
one of obligation or expectation of "something"
in return.
It is part of the Chesed philosophy to act on
behalf of those that can't help themselves.
Through the help of our supporters and
volunteers we have been able to increase our
services. Wildlife and other domestic "critters"
are included in our circle of care. Orthopaedic
cases requiring extensive surgery and rehab have
a second chance when we take over, usually after
a pet is brought or surrendered to animal
services after being hit by a car.
"The question is not, Can
they reason? nor, Can they talk? but, Can
they suffer?" -- Jeremy Bentham (1748-1832) English
philosopher
Working with rescue often shows
us the dark side of humanity, the ignorant side,
and the apathetic side. We try to create
awareness of humane treatment of all creatures.
"Teaching a child not to
step on a caterpillar is as valuable to the
child as it is to the caterpillar." --
Bradley Miller
